"Europe demands it!" or "It is our only option!" these are all excuses politicians make to sell unpleasant reforms to the electorate. For politicians, ruling means having to make difficult decisions that could make you impopular. So why are they sometimes willing to take that risk? Economist and political scientist Barbara Vis is searching for patterns in political decision making.
